Modo Pricing
Modo.coop offers different membership types with varying costs. The Modo Plus plan, which is the flagship plan, requires a one-time share purchase of $500. This plan offers the lowest rates and no monthly administrative fee.
The Modo Monthly plan has slightly higher rates and a monthly administration fee in lieu of an ownership share purchase.
For Modo for Business, there is an optional one-time share purchase of $500.
The cost per trip includes a co-op innovation fee of $1.50 per trip and a per km charge of 35c/km. The hourly rates vary depending on the vehicle type, with Daily Drive costing $5 per hour for Modo Plus and $6 per hour for Modo Monthly.
The Day Tripper rate, which is a reduced rate for whole-day bookings, starts at $100 per day for Daily Drives and $135 per day for Large & Loadable vehicles. This rate includes up to 500km per day for Modo Plus members and 250km per day for other members.
There is also a fuel surcharge mechanism to manage pricing during periods of significant price volatility at the pump. This surcharge applies whenever average gas prices exceed the trigger rate of $2.10 per litre. The surcharge is $0.01 per km for every $0.10 per litre above the trigger rate.
Please note that bookings over 8 hours incur a third tax, the Passenger Vehicle Rental Tax (PVRT). The PVRT is $1.50 per day (24h), added by the provincial government. For a two-day booking, PVRT would cost $3.00, with an additional $0.15 in GST.
Payment Method
Modo Plus members have two payment options available:
- A valid credit card linked to the account (preferred method)
- Electronic bill payment (EBP) via online banking profile
Monthly and all other non-shareholding members are enrolled in Pay as you Drive and must have a valid credit card in their name set up on their account. To process any payment, the app can be used by going into "Account" and "Make a payment".

How To Open A Modo Account?
To open an account with Modo.coop, follow these steps:

Meet the eligibility requirements: The minimum requirements to join Modo can change based on your situation. But in most cases, if you hold a valid license and have a reasonably clean driving record for the past two years, Modo works for you.

Decide which membership is best for you: Before joining, decide which one of the plans works best for you (don’t worry, you can always change it later).

Gather your documents: To join Modo, you will need at least your valid driver’s license and your driving record for the past two years. You will also need a valid credit card OR be prepared to make an electronic bill payment, depending on which type of application you’re making.

Register online: Once you have all your documents ready, register online, dot your Is, cross your Ts and submit your application!

Get driving!: Congratulations! You're on your way to flexible and convenient shared mobility. Once your application is approved, you’ll get a membership number and your key fob will be mailed to the address you have on file with ICBC.

Modo Return Policy?
Modo.coop offers a flexible return policy known as Open Return. This allows users to set their return time while making a booking. Users can extend their booking if the vehicle isn’t in use by another member. However, late fees will apply if users do not extend and return it after their Set Return time. Cancellation fees may also apply.
With Open Return, users don’t have to set their return time in advance. They can book their Daily Drive or Large & Loadable for 24 hours and use them for as long as they like within that time. When they’re done, they simply end their booking and return the vehicle, and only pay for the time and distance they have used, plus a $3 Open Return fee.
Open Return bookings are not subject to cancellation fees. Users need to end the booking when they’re done with the vehicle, or the booking will continue and they will be charged for its full duration. Fobbing out will not end the booking.
Users can manage their Open Return booking in the Modo App. They end their booking the same way they would for a regular (Set Return) booking. They open the app, log into their account, go to “Current Bookings” and click “End Booking”.
The fee to make an Open Return booking is $3. This small convenience fee of $3 is intended to replace and/or offset cancellation and late fees otherwise generated by Set Returns. All members and membership types are welcome to make an Open Return booking. Daily Drives and Large & Loadables can be used for an Open Return booking. Users can book on the spot or up to a year in advance. If they cancel their Open Return booking, they can always cancel a booking.
